John was born, raised and educated at St Mungo's Academy and Stow College in Glasgow, Scotland. He emigrated to Canada in 1965 and now lives in Markham, Ontario.
He joined HKMB in November 1972.
He earned the Canadian Certified Insurance Broker designation and has the Chartered Insurance Professional designation from the Insurance Institute of Canada. Before joining HKMB, John worked for six years with Zurich Insurance Company in a variety of capacities including Property/Casualty Underwriting.
John has helped Clients resolve many major claims, the most recent being a loss in excess of $20,000,000 U.S. following Hurricane damage to a Caribbean resort. He has extensive experience in matching insurance coverages to contractual requirements and has acted as a consultant to the Canadian Ministry of Indian and Northern Affairs on insurance matters relating to Arctic exploration and development.
In addition to the foregoing, he has provided insurance broking skills and risk management advice to a variety of industries with particular emphasis on Retail (was a panelist at the Convention of International Shopping Centre Owners), Public Warehousing, Entertainment and Hospitality industries.
John enjoys most sports, history and travel.
