How does this coverage work in terms of referee assault?

• Accident coverage: The accident policy excludes injuries sustained from fighting but does provide coverage if injury is caused by an assault against the referee during a sanctioned game.
• Liability coverage: The liability policy is there to defend if an injured party pursues compensation as a result of alleged or proven negligence against the individual - in this case a referee. Provides coverage only if the ref is sued, not if the ref tries to sue.

If a referee is injured while officiating a sanctioned game, will the coverage include payment for lost wages?

• No, there is no coverage for lost wages.

Does the policy provide coverage if a referee’s personal vehicle is damaged after a game?

• No. This would have to be claimed under the comprehensive coverage on a personal auto policy.

Would insurance for car/life/home cover referees while officiating?

• Life insurance policies vary and may include restrictions for loss sustained while participating in sporting activities.

Are referees covered under both the accident policy and the liability policy?

• As long as the referee is officiating an Ontario Soccer-sanctioned game, that referee is covered under both the Ontario Soccer accident policy and liability policy.

Ontario Soccer vs. Club/League (Incorporated) Insurance Coverages

Notes:

1. All fundraising activities will be covered (when appropriate insurance coverage is purchased through the HUB on-line program) except events involving the sale or distribution of alcohol and/or the use of fireworks.

3. This must be purchased separately via the Ontario Soccer website.
4. Directors and officers (D&O) insurance: board members can be held personally liable for the wrongful acts of a club. The D&O policy protects past, present and future board members of clubs and leagues officially registered with the OSA against the personal costs of legal liability as a result of wrongful acts that cause others to suffer financial loss. Coverage also extends to spouses of board members, the corporation, trustees, employees, volunteers and committee members.

Insured Organizations

The following are "insured" organizations under the Ontario Soccer's D&O insurance policy and do not need to purchase additional D&O coverage through this program:

If a member of our club is injured participating in a sanctioned game, is there coverage under either of these policies?

No. The Ontario Soccer has arranged general liability insurance and accident insurance for its registered members and the cost is included in the registration fee paid by each member.

The Ontario Soccer general liability policy is designed to protect against lawsuits brought by individuals alleging that the Ontario Soccer and/or its members have negligently caused "bodily injury" to a player or spectator. The policy also covers other types of lawsuits such as property damage, personal injury (libel and slander) and non- owned automobile liability. The policy does not cover expenses related to criminal charges brought against a member of the Ontario Soccer regardless of the nature of the charge(s).

The accident policy is designed to reimburse a member in good standing who suffers a covered injury/death while participating in an Ontario Soccer sanctioned activity. The accident policy is designed to provide coverage to those members who do not have access to another health insurance plan or to supplement existing health insurances.

HUB offers a unique ClubCombo insurance policy to provide coverage for:

• Office contents (tables, chairs, equipment, etc.) and tenant improvement (usual or incidental to your business) while in your business premises. The office location may be a standard office space or a home office provided the office is for an Ontario Soccer registered club.
• Potential liability associated with your Club's involvement in fundraising activities EXCEPT events involving the sale or distribution of alcohol and/or the use of fireworks.

Note that fundraising and non-soccer related activities are not insured by the Ontario Soccer's Commercial General Liability program. Individuals clubs requiring liability insurance coverage for these activities should purchase a ClubCombo policy.

Coverage Available for Online Purchase

• Three levels of office contents coverage available: Option A $10,000 Limit; Option B $25,000 Limit and Option C $50,000
  •  Provides computer coverage and business interruption including extra expense, professional fees and valuable papers
• Office liability coverage that includes:
  • Liability coverage if your club is held legally liable for an injury sustained by a third party visiting your office space
  • Tenant's Legal Liability coverage if the club is liable for property damage caused to the space it occupies. Your landlord may require confirmation of this coverage as part of your lease agreement.
• Directors & Officers Liability coverage with limits of $1,000,000 or $2,000,000 is also available and can be purchased alone or in conjunction with the ClubCombo policy.

ClubCombo insurance does not cover club members injured while participating in a sanctioned game. The Ontario Soccer has arranged General Liability Insurance and Accident Insurance for its members, the cost of which is included in the registration fee paid by each member.

1. Complete a Certificate of Insurance Request Form. Only requests submitted on a properly completed Certificate of Insurance Request Form will be processed.
2. Forward completed form to your district.
3. Your district will then email the form to HUB and provide a copy to the Ontario Soccer.

HUB has committed to process certificate requests within 24 hours and email the certificate back to the district which, in turn, will email it to the requesting club.
